Lower (Donji) Bridge over the Zrmanja River in Kaštel Žegarski

On the Žegar–Krupa road, the Zrmanja River is spanned by the so-called Donji Bridge, built of dressed ashlar stone blocks. The bridge has five semicircular arches, the central one being the largest. The arches are supported by four stone piers, whose upstream ends terminate in triangular cutwaters with pyramid-shaped caps.

The bridge’s parapet is formed by a massive wall of rectangular cross-section, and the deck rises gently towards the center.

Archival records from the 18th and 19th centuries mention the bridge, and it acquired its present appearance after repairs in 1885 during the Austro-Hungarian period. The bridge is still used for vehicular traffic. Its form and construction represent an interesting variant of stone bridge architecture in Dalmatia.

The bridge is protected as a cultural monument.
